Parts of a Tree Wall Hanging

Description

Go on a walk with your little researcher to observe the deciduous trees in your neighborhood. Don’t forget to take along your tote bag, magnifying glass, identification guides, nature journal, and a few favorite art supplies!

Take time to look at, listen to, smell, and feel the trees you find. Sketch or take photos of your favorites. What do you like about them? Point out and name the parts of each tree to further build your child’s scientific vocabulary.

This is also a great time to discuss the importance of respecting nature. If your child wants to bring back items in his tote bag (seeds, leaves, fruit, flowers, branches), remind him to only collect things he finds on the ground and not to pick anything directly from a tree.

Back at home, explore his collection and see if he can match each item he found to the parts shown on the wall hanging. Then display the canvas as a reference for his scientific studies and to inspire future discoveries.
